LIGUE 1: GOALLESS DRAW DENTS LILLE’S CHALLENGE ....

lille valenciennesLille remain six points behind Ligue 1 leaders Paris St Germain after scraping to a goalless draw against Valenciennes.

The reigning champions were lucky not to lose after their lowly opponents hit the woodwork three times – the result takes Lille to third in the table, above Lyon on goal difference.

Paris St Germain remain three points clear at the top after their thrilling 4-2 victory over Caen on Saturday. Winger Jeremy Menez has publicly apologised for reacting angrily to being substituted.
Elsewhere, Toulouse moved up to fifth place with a 1-0 victory over Rennes – despite being forced to play with 10-men after Antoine Devaux was sent off on 55 minutes.

Nice also played without a player for half an hour but created the best chances during a 1-1 draw with Sochaux, which leaves them only two points clear of the relegation zone.

PSG LOOKING TO BOUNCE BACK IN THE LEAGUE...

PSG SquadLigue 1 leaders Paris St Germain are determined to put their Coupe de France exit behind them by bouncing back against Caen.

PSG were surprisingly beaten 3-2 by lowly Dijon in the cup, despite leading the game 2-0. They will have home advantage against Caen – as will second place Montpellier when they host Nancy.

Elsewhere, Lyon are hoping that the recent crowd trouble during their cup game against St Etienne will not repeat itself when the two sides play in the league this weekend.
Lyon won the cup derby but the game was interrupted and players forced to leave the pitch after flares were thrown in reaction to a penalty decision.

Lyon have been drawn to face PSG in the next round of the cup.

SERIE A REVIEW: TIGHT AT THE TOP OF THE TABLE ...

udeneseIt’s getting tight at the top of Serie A with only three points separating the first six teams.
Udinese suffered their first defeat of the season after goals from Ezequiel Lavezzi and Christian Moggi gave Napoli a 2-0 win.
Udinese remain level with Lazio in second place and one point behind the leaders Juventus.
Lazio missed the chance to go top of the table after being held to a 1-1 draw with Catania.

Napoli are only one more point behind and level with AC Milan as Antonio Nocerino became the second successive Rosseneri player to score a hat-trick following a 4-1 thrashing of Parma.

Elsewhere, Genoa were lucky to beat Roma 2-1 with a late winner from Juraj Kurka against the run of play.
And, Inter Milan are still struggling to ignite their season after a 1-1 draw with Atalanta.

WHAT’S THE PROBLEM WITH MAN UNITED? ...

Manchester United’s 6-1 humiliation by local rivals Manchester City exposed some serious flaws in the champion’s team.

Despite their impressive start to the season, United have been average without Wayne Rooney’s goals.

Their biggest problem has been in defence with Rio Ferdinand and Patrice Evra playing poorly, Nemanja Vidic injured and the youngsters lacking experience. United have conceded more shots on goal than any other team in the Premier League.

They are also short in central midfield where Michael Carrick continues to disappoint while Anderson and Fletcher struggled to compete against City.

And, there are also doubts whether Tom Cleverly can fill the creative void left by Paul Scholes.
Alex Ferguson has started to revolutionise his team – but, on this evidence, more changes are needed.

HANNOVER END BAYERN’S UNBEATEN SEQUENCE ....

Bayern Munich’s unbeaten eight-match Bundesliga run ended on Sunday with a 2-1 defeat at Hannover.

Mohammed Abdellaoue’s penalty and Christian Pander’s deflected shot were the first league goals conceded by the leaders since August 7.

David Alaba set up a tense finish with a late reply, but Bayern never really recovered from Jerome Boateng’s 28th minute red card, even though Hannover also had a player dismissed when Steve Cherundolo was sent off after 63 minutes.

Hannover joined third-placed Schalke on 18 points, after Jefferson Farfan earned Schalke a 1-0 success at Bayer Leverkusen.

In Holland, meanwhile, AZ are four points ahead of PSV and Twente at the top of the Eredivisie after a 1-0 home win over Roda, who lost to a Rasmus Elm goal. PSV and Twente both drew 1-1, PSV at Vitesse and Twente at Groningen.

JUVE PUNISHED FOR LACK OF CONCENTRATION

Serie A leaders Juventus paid the penalty for relaxing at home to Genoa on Saturday night and in the end were relieved to draw 2-2.

It could have been much worse for Juve, as Andrea Caracciolo went close to winning the match in stoppage time for the visitors not long after scoring.

Twice Genoa came from behind to cancel out goals from Alessandro Matri, with Marco Rossi equalising the first. Juve are now just a point ahead of Udinese, who entertain Novara on Sunday.

Meanwhile in Germany, Borussia Dortmund climbed to within three points of Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich – who visit Hannover on Sunday - with a 5-0 home demolition of Cologne.
The victory – via two Robert Lewandowski goals and one each from Shinji Kagawa, Marcel Schmelzer and Sebastian Kehl – moved the German champions two points clear of Stuttgart, Werder Bremen and Borussia Monchengladbach.

BECKHAM’S OLYMPIC PLACE NOT CERTAIN ...

David Beckham has made no secret of his wish to represent Great Britain at next year’s Olympics in London as an over-age player – but he could be disappointed.

When England Under-21 boss Stuart Pearce was named as manager of Team GB’s football team on Thursday, he refused to confirm that the former England captain would be in his squad.
Pearce stated that he would be basing his selection on “fitness and form” – and with the 36-year-old Beckham’s contract with LA Galaxy due to end in December, there is doubt as to where he will be playing next year.

Currently wealthy Ligue 1 leaders Paris Saint-Germain appear to be favourites to sign the former Manchester United and Real Madrid superstar.

RAMSEY STUNS MARSEILLE WITH LATE WINNER ....

A dramatic late goal from Aaron Ramsey earned Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger his first ever win at Marseille on Wednesday night and put the Gunners in control of Group F of the Champions League.

Wenger had never triumphed at the Stade Velodrome as Monaco boss and it looked as though that record would continue after a disappointing match lacking in quality.

However, with almost the last kick of the game a deep cross from the right landed at the feet of the unmarked Ramsey, who made no mistake to spark prolonged jeers from the home crowd.
Meanwhile, Olympiacos recorded their first win in the group by defeating Borussia Dortmund 3-1 at home.

Jose Holebas headed the Greek club in front and although Robert Lewandowski volleyed in an equaliser, Rafik Djebbour capitalised on a defensive error and Francois Modesto headed in Ariel Ibagaza’s centre to seal the points.

GAMEIRO TREBLE KEEPS PSG OUT IN FRONT ...

Kevin Gameiro kept his promise to Paris St Germain’s supporters. Before setting off with the PSG squad to face Ajaccio, the striker said he was travelling to Corsica to win and ensured the Ligue 1 leaders did just that with a hat-trick inside an hour. Gameiro found the net after two minutes and ensured the Corsican side would finish the afternoon second bottom in the league while PSG moved three points clear of Lyon and Montpellier. Vincent Aboubakar scored twice as Valenciennes crushed Sochaux 3-0. In La Liga, Helder Postiga hit his first goals since joining Zaragoza from Sporting Lisbon to inflict a third successive defeat on Real Sociedad. Zaragoza moved into the top half of La Liga while Espanyol overcame Rayo Vallecano 1-0.

MANCHESTER UNITED GRATEFUL FOR LIVERPOOL POINT ...

Manchester United may have lost their lead at the top of the Premier League to Manchester City but they will have been grateful for their point at Liverpool. Sir Alex Ferguson sent a strange looking side to Anfield, without Wayne Rooney whom the Manchester United manager said was too distressed about the ban imposed by Uefa that will keep him out of the group stages of Euro 2012. United were outplayed by Liverpool who took the lead through Steven Gerrard, who scored on his first start for the club in seven months. However, an equaliser from Javier Hernandez earned United a 1-1 draw. Manchester City went top with a 4-1 victory over Aston Villa while Chelsea overcame Everton 3-1 to confirm pre-season predictions that the Premier League will be decided between these three clubs.

STRUGGLING INTER SUFFER MORE INJURY BLOWS

New manager, Claudio Ranieri, takes Internazionale to face Catania with his side weighed down by a host of injuries.

Inter are likely to travel to Sicily without goalkeeper, Julio Cesar, his main playmaker, Wesley Sneijder, Christian Chivu and new signing, Diego Forlan, who was injured playing for Uruguay against Paraguay. Ranieri will also face a task in motivating Dejan Stankovic, who was said to be distraught after Serbia’s failure to qualify for Euro 2012.

Inter have confirmed that there is no possibility that they will take Samuel Eto’o back on loan during the long Russian winter break.

Eto’o left San Siro for Anzhi Makhachkala but club president, Massimo Moratti, said that he would not consider the striker coming back.

PLANETFOOTBALL360 NEWS UPDATE!!!!

CROATIA AND BOSNIA OUT FOR REVENGE IN PLAY OFFS

Ireland are the big winners in the draw for the Euro 2012 play-offs.
They have been drawn against Estonia, perhaps the weakest of the countries who are still fighting for a place in Poland and Ukraine.

Estonia have never before made it to a major tournament but beat Northern Ireland home and away to finish second behind Italy.

The biggest match sees Turkey, who finished third in the 2002 World Cup, face Croatia, who were bronze medallists in 1998. For Croatia this will be a chance for revenge for the defeat they suffered in Vienna in the Euro 2008 quarter-finals when the Turks forced and won a penalty
shoot-out with the final kick of the game.

The other play-offs see Portugal face Bosnia – a repeat of the play-offs for the last World Cup - while the Czech Republic take on Montenegro.
