PODOLSKI COULD JOIN MERTESACKER AT ARSENAL ...

podolskiThe Arsenal defender, Per Mertesacker, says he hopes Lukas Podolski will soon be joining him at the Emirates Stadium. The German defender said that his manager Arsene Wenger was interested in the striker and that an offer to Podolski’s club, Cologne, was probable. Cologne recognised they face a battle to keep the 26-year-old, particularly after Podolski admitted falling out with Cologne’s sporting director, Volker Finke. There is also interest from Lazio, where his international strike partner, Miroslav Klose, plays.
Elsewhere in the Bundesliga, bottom club Freiburg have sacked their manager, Marcus Sorg. He had only been in his post since July but Freiburg are bottom of the table, five points from safety, and successive defeats by Cologne and Borussia Dortmund by scorelines of 4-0 and 4-1 sealed his fate. His assistant, Christian Streich, will take over.

PLANETFOOTBALL360 NEWS UPDATE!!!!

ANCELOTTI MUST BEWARE OF ELDERLY STARS AT PSG

carlo ancelottiCarlo Ancelotti will become the highest paid manager in the history of French football but he will have to earn his money at Paris St Germain. Ancelotti will return from holiday in Disneyland to take over at PSG with assurances from the club’s Qatari owners that there is upwards of €50m to spend in the January transfer window. The names linked with a move to the Parc des Princes seem enticing – David Beckham. Florent Malouda, Kaka, Alexandre Pato. However, these are expensive and often ageing footballers who will largely have no resale value and whose hunger for success is open to question. Malouda has already admitted his chief goal is securing a place in France’s 2012 squad. PSG should beware. They are likely to win Ligue 1 with the players they have but they risk being overburdened with stars who have lost their shine.

BERBATOV READY TO QUIT MANCHESTER UNITED ...

dimitrav berbatovImmediately after he marked his return to Manchester United’s first team with a hat-trick, Dimitar Berbatov’s agent revealed that he may rejoin Bayer Leverkusen during next month’s transfer window. Despite the fact that Berbatov scored three times in the 5-0 defeat of Wigan, he has largely been out of favour at Old Trafford in 2011, with Danny Welbeck and Javier Hernandez preferred by his manager, Sir Alex Ferguson, as Wayne Rooney’s strike partner. His agent, Ivan Dobrinov, said that Bayer Leverkusen, where he spent five years and reached a Champions League final, are interested in taking him back to the Bundesliga. Manchester United paid Tottenham £30m for Berbatov in 2008 and will recoup about a tenth of that, if he is sold because he will be 31 next month and has only six months left on his contract.

GAME OF THE YEAR – MANCHESTER UNITED 1 CITY 6 ...

mario balotelliIf there was one game that symbolised the changing balance of power in English football it was the October afternoon that Manchester City went to Old Trafford and won 6-1.
Sir Alex Ferguson had suffered his biggest defeat in 37 years as a manager and it was Manchester United’s heaviest home defeat since they lost 7-0 to Wolverhampton Wanderers in 1931.
The destruction was begun by Mario Balotelli, who after repeated criticism of his lifestyle revealed a T-shirt that said: “Why Always Me”.
He scored again and as Manchester United began attacking to try to pull the game back, City’s lethal strike force destroyed a back four that had seen Jonny Evans sent off. Ferguson was humiliated as never before while City began to believe they could win the title.

PLANET FOOTBALL 360 PLAYER OF THE YEAR – LIONEL MESSI ...

lionel messi
There can be nobody who doubts that Lionel Messi is not the best player in the world.
But for his failure in two World Cups for Argentina he could claim to be the best footballer there has ever been.
His supreme moment this year came in the Champions League final at Wembley, where he produced a stunning performance and a beautifully-taken goal as Manchester United were swept aside.
It eclipsed even his performance in the semi-final against Real Madrid where he dribbled through the defence at the Bernabeu to score perhaps the goal of the year.
Last season he scored more than 50, and followed it up by being involved in all five goals in the Spanish Super Cup against Real Madrid. Needless to say he was voted player of the tournament in the World Club Championship and scored twice in the final.

SUAREZ PROTESTS CAN’T FORCE LIVERPOOL WIN ...

luiz suarezLiverpool’s players issued a statement condemning the eight-match ban given to their Uruguayan striker, Luis Suarez for racially abusing the Manchester United defender, Patrice Evra.
The Liverpool players all wore T-shirts with Suarez’s face on them but a missed penalty by Charlie Adam condemned them to a 0-0 draw at Wigan.
The two Manchester clubs continued their dominance of the Premier League with City beating Stoke 3-0 thanks to two goals from Sergio Aguero while United crushed Fulham 5-0.
Paris St Germain were the big winners in Ligue 1 with Mathieu Bodmer’s goal giving them a 1-0 victory at St Etienne.
Montpellier’s collapse in form continued as they lost 4-2 at Evian while Lyon were beaten 1-0 at Valenciennes.
The most exciting match in Europe was at Lille who drew 4-4 with Nice.

PSG’S MONEY MAKES THEM FAVOURITES FOR TEVEZ ...

carlos tevezParis St Germain are the favourites to sign Carlos Tevez after Manchester City told the four clubs bidding for his signature that they will not let the Argentine striker leave on loan.
Tevez is spending Christmas in Argentina but Manchester City revealed that four clubs – Paris St Germain, Internazionale, AC Milan and Juventus - have expressed an interest in signing him.
However, the Manchester City manager, Roberto Mancini said that because the club had paid £25m to buy him and were paying him a salary of £200,000 a week, they would only entertain cash offers. This means that PSG, who are in negotiations to bring David Beckham to the Parc des Princes, are favourites because of their large financial reserves.

PREMIER LEAGUE: MAN CITY RETURN TO SUMMIT ...

city - arsenalManchester City returned to the top of the Premier League with an exciting 1-0 victory over Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium.

Manchester United had briefly overtaken their rivals by beating QPR 2-0 earlier in the day – with goals from Wayne Rooney and a rare Michael Carrick strike.

However, David Silva scored City’s 50th goal of the season to get the club back to winning ways and reclaim top spot.

Liverpool moved to within three points of Chelsea with a resounding 2-0 win against Aston Villa, Craig Bellamy and Martin Skrtel scored the goals.

Despite missing Gareth Bale and Jermaine Defoe, Tottenham moved into third place with a 1-0 win against Sunderland. Rafael van der Vaart’s superb pass set up Roman Pavlyuchenko for the winner.

RAUL’S BRILLIANCE KEEPS SCHALKE ON BAYERN’S TAIL ...

raul schalke 04Bayern Munich will go into the Bundesliga’s winter break leading by just three points. Their two nearest rivals, Borussia Dortmund and Schalke, both kept the pressure up with big wins on a day in which Raul’s quality continued to shine through. The Spaniard, now 34, struck a hat-trick as Schalke overwhelmed Werder Bremen 5-0 at the Veltins Arena. They, like Dortmund, are still within touching distance of Bayern, although the Dortmund manager, Jurgen Klopp, said their 4-1 win over bottom club, Freiburg, flattered the German champions. Bayern Munich had beaten Cologne 3-0 on Friday, a victory marred by the dismissal of Franck Ribery, but Germany’s other Champions League survivor, Bayer Leverkusen, endured a dreadful afternoon, beaten 3-0 at home by Nuremberg.

SCHWEINSTEIGER RULED OUT UNTIL NEW YEAR ...

schweinsteigerBayern Munich have confirmed that Bastian Schweinsteiger will not return from injury until after the Bundesliga winter break.
The influential midfielder fractured his clavicle while playing against Napoli in the Champions League on November 2 – but was expected to return sooner.
Schweinsteiger has become an integral part of the Bayern team, with former manager Ottmar Hitzfield even comparing him to Barcelona playmaker Xavi.
In his absence, Bayern have suffered a slight slump in form – although they remain three points clear at the top of the table with two games remaining this year.
Bayern have been drawn against FC Basel in the Champions League – while the other German side still in the competition, Bayer Leverkeusen, face the more difficult challenge of overcoming Barcelona.

BENZEMA WINS FRANCE PLAYER OF THE YEAR ...

karim benzemaReal Madrid striker Karim Benzema has been named French player of the year by France Football magazine.
Despite struggling to live up to his reputation when he first joined Real Madrid, Benzema has improved under Jose Mourinho and scored 26 goals during the 2010-11 season.
Benzema’s most recent goal was the fastest ever scored in el clasico when he netted after only 23 seconds, although Barcelona eventually won the game 3-1.
It is a pleasure to win an individual trophy. When I see the previous winners – (Zinedine) Zidane, (Theirry) Henry and the other major players – it makes me proud to join them on the list,” he said.
Benzema is expected to spearhead France’s attack at Euro 2012 – after being surprisingly left out for the 2010 World Cup.

WILL DROGBA JOIN ANELKA IN CHINESE SUPER LEAGUE? ...

anelka drogbaShangai Shenhua have turned their attention to signing Didier Drogba after announcing a deal to bring his Chelsea teammate Nicolas Anelka to the club.
Anelka will join the Chinese Super League club in January after having a transfer request accepted by Andres Villas-Boas.
The big spending outfit have confirmed that Anelka, 32, will be earning in the region of £6 million a year – and are hopeful that a similar end-of-career pay-off will tempt the Ivory Coast striker.
Despite being told he would be replaced by Fernando Torres this season, Drogba has forced his way back into the Blues’ first team – but wants more than the one-year extension he has been offered by Chelsea.
The Chinese club also expect to have Bordeaux coach Jean Tigana installed by January.

BUNDESLIGA: BAYERN GO THREE POINTS CLEAR ....

bayern munichBayern Munich went three points clear at the top of the Bundesliga table with a 2-1 victory over 10-men Stuttgart.
Mario Gomez returned to haunt his former club with two goals after Bayern had fallen behind to Christian Gednter’s opener – Stuttgart had Cristian Molinaro sent off after 29 minutes.
Borussia Dortmund missed the chance of going top of the table after being held to a 1-1 draw against Kaiserslautern.
Dortmund had several chances to win the game after Shinji Kagawa’s opening goal but Marco Hurz’s equaliser earned Kaiserslautern a point that takes them out of the relegation zone.
On Saturday, Borussia Monchengladbach also missed out on claiming top spot after losing 1-0 to newly promoted Ausburg.
And, Lukas Podolski and Christian Clems both scored twice as Cologne hammered Frieburg 4-0.

PREMIER LEAGUE: ROONEY STRIKES BACK FOR UNITED ...

wayne rooneyWayne Rooney ended his eight-game goal scoring drought to help Manchester United return to winning ways with a 4-1 victory over Wolves.
Rooney and Nani both scored two goals apiece as United outclassed their opponents to move within three points of leaders Manchester City, and help them forget their Champions League disappointment.
Robin van Persie again showed how crucial he is to Arsenal by hitting a wonderful volley to beat Everton 1-0 on the club’s 125th anniversary. The Dutchman has now scored 19 goals this season and looks set to beat Thierry Henry’s record for goals in a calendar year.
Luiz Suarez kept Liverpool in the chase for a top four finish by netting the only goal in a home victory against QPR. It was the Uruguay striker’s first goal since October 1st and ended Liverpool’s run of four successive draws at Anfield.
