Liverpool’s players issued a statement condemning the eight-match ban given to their Uruguayan striker, Luis Suarez for racially abusing the Manchester United defender, Patrice Evra.The Liverpool players all wore T-shirts with Suarez’s face on them but a missed penalty by Charlie Adam condemned them to a 0-0 draw at Wigan.
The two Manchester clubs continued their dominance of the Premier League with City beating Stoke 3-0 thanks to two goals from Sergio Aguero while United crushed Fulham 5-0.
Paris St Germain were the big winners in Ligue 1 with Mathieu Bodmer’s goal giving them a 1-0 victory at St Etienne.
Montpellier’s collapse in form continued as they lost 4-2 at Evian while Lyon were beaten 1-0 at Valenciennes.
The most exciting match in Europe was at Lille who drew 4-4 with Nice.
