Bayern Munich have confirmed that Bastian Schweinsteiger will not return from injury until after the Bundesliga winter break.The influential midfielder fractured his clavicle while playing against Napoli in the Champions League on November 2 – but was expected to return sooner.
Schweinsteiger has become an integral part of the Bayern team, with former manager Ottmar Hitzfield even comparing him to Barcelona playmaker Xavi.
In his absence, Bayern have suffered a slight slump in form – although they remain three points clear at the top of the table with two games remaining this year.
Bayern have been drawn against FC Basel in the Champions League – while the other German side still in the competition, Bayer Leverkeusen, face the more difficult challenge of overcoming Barcelona.
