Carlo Ancelotti will become the highest paid manager in the history of French football but he will have to earn his money at Paris St Germain. Ancelotti will return from holiday in Disneyland to take over at PSG with assurances from the club’s Qatari owners that there is upwards of €50m to spend in the January transfer window. The names linked with a move to the Parc des Princes seem enticing – David Beckham. Florent Malouda, Kaka, Alexandre Pato. However, these are expensive and often ageing footballers who will largely have no resale value and whose hunger for success is open to question. Malouda has already admitted his chief goal is securing a place in France’s 2012 squad. PSG should beware. They are likely to win Ligue 1 with the players they have but they risk being overburdened with stars who have lost their shine.
