Immediately after he marked his return to Manchester United’s first team with a hat-trick, Dimitar Berbatov’s agent revealed that he may rejoin Bayer Leverkusen during next month’s transfer window. Despite the fact that Berbatov scored three times in the 5-0 defeat of Wigan, he has largely been out of favour at Old Trafford in 2011, with Danny Welbeck and Javier Hernandez preferred by his manager, Sir Alex Ferguson, as Wayne Rooney’s strike partner. His agent, Ivan Dobrinov, said that Bayer Leverkusen, where he spent five years and reached a Champions League final, are interested in taking him back to the Bundesliga. Manchester United paid Tottenham £30m for Berbatov in 2008 and will recoup about a tenth of that, if he is sold because he will be 31 next month and has only six months left on his contract.
