GERRARD AND SPURS MAKE IT A BAD NIGHT FOR CITY ...
A penalty from Steven Gerrard gave Liverpool a clear advantage after the first leg of their League Cup semi-final against Manchester City. In order to reach the final, Roberto Mancini’s side will have to win at Anfield, something only Tottenham have done since Kenny Dalglish returned to manage the club a year ago. Manchester City suffered their second successive defeat at the Etihad Stadium when Stefan Savic fouled Daniel Agger after 12 minutes. Mancini’s night was made worse by the sight of Tottenham moving to within three points of City at the top of the Premier League after a comfortable 2-0 win over Everton at White Hart Lane. Goals from Aaron Lennon and Benoit Assou-Ekotto moved the London club level on points with Manchester United.
