ENGLAND SHOW LOW VALUE OF WORLD RANKING
It is really hard to take FIFA’s world ranking seriously after seeing England labour to victory over Wales in the European Championship qualifiers this week.
How can Fabio Capello’s side be recognised as the fourth best football nation when they scrape a 1-0 home win over a country listed as low as 117th?
Not only that, how can England be ranked above the likes of Copa America winners Uruguay, Brazil, Italy, Portugal and Argentina when they had not previously won a home game for a year?
It makes a mockery of the system – so whatever format world football’s governing body is using to work out the ranking, it needs revising quickly if it is not going to become a complete joke.
