MANDZUKIC DENTS SCHALKE’S HOPES

Schalke’s hopes of joining Bayern Munich and Werder Bremen at the top of the Bundesliga were dashed by Wolfsburg striker Mario Mandzukic on Sunday.
The Croatia forward scored once in each half to earn Wolfsburg a 2-1 home win and end their run of three defeats, after Spanish veteran Raul had put Schalke ahead.
In Holland, Feyenoord climbed to within two points of leaders Ajax after a 3-1 win at NAC on Sunday lifted them into fourth place and maintained their unbeaten start to the league season.
Ajax had jumped to the head of the Eredivisie – a point in front of AZ and Twente - on Saturday, after the Amsterdam giants won 3-2 at Heracles and Twente lost their 100 per cent record with a 2-1 defeat at Roda. AZ had claimed second place by beating Vitesse 4-0 at home.
