Real Madrid missed their chance to take the advantage over Barcelona after a shock loss to Levante in La Liga.In a game they should have won, Real could have gone two points clear of the defending champions – instead, Barcelona are now a point ahead of their main rivals following their 8-0 humiliation of Osasuna.
Jose Mourinho felt confident enough to leave Cristiano Ronaldo out of the starting line up but Real struggled after Sami Khedira was sent off for a second yellow card on 41-minutes.
Arouna Kone scored the second-half winner and Levante could easier have scored a second as Real chased the game. Ronaldo was sent on to replace Karim Benzema but couldn’t change the result.
Meanwhile, new signing Radamel Falcao scored a hat-trick to help Atletico Madrid earn an impressive 4-0 win against Racing Santander.
