ANOTHER INJURY CLOUDS GERRARD’S LIVERPOOL FUTURE ...
Steven Gerrard is likely to miss three of Liverpool’s most critical games of the season after picking up an ankle infection. The news comes as a further blow to the 31-year-old midfielder, who had only just returnedto first-team action after a seven-month absence. He is likely to miss Saturday’s home match with Swansea and England’s two friendlies against Spain and Sweden but, far more importantly for manager, Kenny Dalglish, are the games that follow. Liverpool face Chelsea twice in the Premier League and the League Cup quarter-final and take on Manchester City at Anfield. In the longer-term, however, the future of Liverpool’s captain and their greatest player for a generation must be open to question. He is becoming increasingly prone to injury and Dalglish may have to start planning for life at Anfield without him.
