The ridiculous pressure which Serie A bosses work under was emphasised on Wednesday when 10th-placed Cagliari named Davide Ballardini as their third coach of the season.Ballardini’s third spell in charge of the Sardinian club follows the shock sacking of Massimo Ficcadenti and comes in the same week that Sinisa Mihajlovic was replaced as Fiorentina coach by Delio Rossi.
Earlier this season, Ficcadenti had taken over from former Italy coach Roberto Donadoni, who was allowed only one friendly by Cagliari president Massimo Cellino.
Altogether there have been an unbelievable seven coaching changes in Serie A since August, with Inter Milan, Cesena, Palermo and Bologna also switching bosses.
Surely, even in today’s results-orientated football world, coaches deserve longer to mould a successful team.
