Paris St Germain have confirmed that they are in talks with David Beckham and hope he will join the Ligue 1 leaders in the January transfer window. Given that Beckham has ruled out a return to the Premier League, where he could only have played for clubs of the calibre of Blackburn, and that he intends to quit Los Angeles Galaxy, PSG appear an obvious choice. They are based in one of Europe’s most glamorous cities and can expect Champions League football next season while Leonardo, the club’s sporting director, is a friend from his days in Milan. Leonardo said there was “a rapport” with Beckham and negotiations had already begun. The question that Leonardo has never been able to answer is what Beckham will bring PSG – especially as his performances in Los Angeles were often the subject of criticism.
