Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov is the latest high-profile name to be linked with big spending Russian club Anzhi Makhachkala.Following heavy investment from billionaire Sulleyman Kerimov, Anzi have already signed Roberto Carlos and Yuri Zhirkov while making Samuel Eto’o the highest paid player in the world.
Berbatov has fallen out of favour at United, playing just five times this season after being snubbed for the 2011 Champions League Final. And the player’s agent has suggested the Bulgarian could be open to a January move.
The Russian club is reported to be preparing a £15 million bid, which would tempt United as Berbatov’s contract expires at the end of the season.
United paid £30 million for the temperamental striker in 2008 but, despite top scoring in the Premier League last season, he has failed to convince supporters.
